On 21-22 May three of AARNet’s eResearch team (pictured below, from left to right, Frankie Stevens, Sara King and Ingrid Mason) were delighted to get the chance to attend a Carpentries Instructor training workshop.
The two-day workshop, run by qualified CSIRO Carpentries trainers Kerensa McElroy and Benjamin Schwessinger, is aimed at those who want to become Software Carpentry, Data Carpentry, and Library Carpentry instructors, run workshops and contribute to the Carpentry training materials.
The Carpentries is made up of communities of Instructors, Trainers, Maintainers, Helpers, and supporters who share a mission to teach foundational computational and data science skills to researchers.
For AARNet’s community, the eResearch team is building training materials and workshops to assist with lowering barriers to cloud computing, and digital research tools and methods.
This training workshop will inform the style of materials that will be produced, with the aim of reaching as many users as possible, regardless of their level of experience.
With this additional training, we will continue to aim our efforts in improving digital dexterity and infrastructure literacy across the research community as a whole.
