We're pleased to welcome Ben White, who has officially commenced as CEO.
Sydney, Australia, 16 July, 2025 - AARNet is pleased to welcome Ben White, who officially commenced as Chief Executive Officer last week.
Ben steps into the role following the retirement of Chris Hancock AM, who led AARNet for more than two decades. His appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for the organisation, as we continue to support Australia’s research and education sector with world-class digital infrastructure and services.
Ben brings more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications, technology and consulting sectors, with deep expertise in leadership, strategy and innovation. He spent over 17 years in senior executive roles at Optus, where he led major business units and spearheaded transformation and innovation initiatives. Earlier in his career, Ben worked internationally with Bain & Company, advising clients on strategy and growth.
Professor Emeritus Ian O’Connor AC, Chair of the AARNet Board, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Ben into the role. His experience, values and vision make him the right leader to guide AARNet into its next phase of growth and evolution.”
Ben said he was honoured to join an organisation with such a strong sense of purpose:
“AARNet plays a unique and critical role in enabling research, education and innovation across Australia. It’s a privilege to be part of that mission, and I’m looking forward to working with the team and our partners to build on the strong foundation already in place.”
