NETWORKING FOR DATA-INTENSIVE SCIENCE

AARNet X is a pathfinder network, an experimental platform for finding and testing new methods of cost-effectively delivering very high bandwidth, intelligent networks to support the evolving needs of researchers and institutions wanting to move extremely large amounts of data.

KEY FEATURES

  • Capacity: single flows up to 100Gbps 
  • Architecture: Science DMZ (a system developed by ESnet, the US Department of Energy research network)
  • Underlying technology: hardware and software under trial
  • Participating facilities: universities and research institutes, large data sources and supercomputers 
  • Reach: facilities connected to the AARNet national network and international research and education networks
