Azure ExpressRoute

Fast, secure private connections to the Microsoft cloud

AARNet is a Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute connectivity partner

With ExpressRoute, AARNet customers can establish private connections to Microsoft Azure.

ExpressRoute connections don't travel over the public Internet. Because ExpressRoute connections travel over a private connection, they offer more reliability, faster speeds, lower latencies, and higher security than typical Internet connections. In some cases, using ExpressRoute connections to transfer data between on-premise systems and Microsoft cloud services can yield cost benefits.

What connections to ExpressRoute are available?

Virtual Private Networks

ExpressRoute private connections to Microsoft cloud services in Melbourne and Sydney are available using:

  • AARNet4 Layer-2 VPNs
  • AARNet4 Layer-3 (Routed) VPNs

Other options for connecting to Microsoft?

Internet connectivity is also available to Microsoft 'on-net' and 'unmetered' via AARNet's domestic peering arrangements.

When to choose ExpressRoute?

For heavier throughput (over 100Mbps), or where consistent performance is required, the use of private connections is advised. The choice and design of direct connect options is dependent on how you plan to manage and integrate your Microsoft cloud services with other cloud infrastructure. AARNet consultants can assist with these choices and implementation if required.
