ACSS How To Connect

Video Conferences – What do you need to dial in?

Conferences scheduled by ACSS are held on traditional standards based videoconferencing infrastructure and as such to participate fully you will need to dial in using a standards based videoconferencing endpoint that supports the following protocols:

  • H.323 (IP or network based videoconferencing) - Used by newer video conferencing endpoints.
  • H.320 (ISDN or Integrated Services Digital Network) - the fore-runner to broadband and ADSL.

Some typical H.323 and H.320 video conferencing vendors include: Cisco/Tandberg/Codian, Polycom, Lifesize, Avaya, Sony.

There are many different types of endpoints including dedicated room based endpoints, desk endpoints, desktop software, endpoint clients for the major mobile platforms like Apple iOS, Windows Mobile and Android.

As long as your endpoint or software supports H.323 or H.320 then you can connect to a conference scheduled by ACSS.

AARNet NVCS Quality Assurance Scheme - To Automatically Dial Out

AARNet's NVCS team offers a quality assurance scheme that can test your videoconferencing endpoint against a set of protocols and standards and certify that your endpoint will work with our conferencing infrastructure. This is a free service to AARNet connected customers and requires booking via the NVCS team.

If you require to be able to automatically dial out to your endpoint from our conferencing infrastructure at the time of your conferencing starting you will be required to certify your endpoint using the NVCS QA Scheme before your endpoint will be included into the ACSS system for you to book for dial out. Traditionally most conferencing held on our conferencing infrastructure is dial-in only which means you must dial into your conference instead of it dialing out to you automatically. Many NVCS customers prefer to book their conferences to dial out to automatically thereby eliminating the need to manually connect or train staff to learn how to do so.

More information on the NVCS Quality Assurance Scheme can be found here: http://www.aarnet.edu.au/services/support/nvcs/qa.aspx .

Audio Only Conferences - Teleconferencing

When you book a conference it can be used for video or audio or a mix of both unless you specifically book it as "audio only".

All you need to do to dial into a video or audio conference using a normal phone is follow the instructions provided in your reservation confirmation email sent to you upon validation of your conference, instructions on how to connect by phone or video endpoint are provided in full.

All ACSS meeting ID's are the same as the international dialing format of the phone number for that conference, for example:

  • A meeting ID of 61262112600 translates to +61 2 6211 2600 or (02) 6211 2600 for Australian callers.
You can dial into any video or audio conference from here in Australia or overseas simply by dialing the number provided from your land line or mobile phone.
