Who can use eduroam?
The eduroam AU service is available to all AARNet customers and also to New Zealand higher education and research organisations.
How does eduroam work?
eduroam is a federated authentication solution that allows users visiting participating institutions to gain secure access to wireless networks using the same username/password credentials they use at their home institution for wireless access.
eduroam allows access without having to enter any details, users simply open their laptop or device of choice and if it’s wireless enabled it will connect to eduroam, authenticate and authorise network access.

More than 20 Australian universities participate in eduroam AU, as well as research institutions and other AARNet customers. AARNet is also deploying eduroam in hospitals to assist medical researchers.

Individual end users
-
Instructions for connecting to eduroam, both for local users and visitors, are provided by participating institutions on their wireless networking web pages.
-
Users should configure access to eduroam locally (i.e. connect to eduroam on their home institution campus) prior to travelling and using eduroam at a visited institution.
-
End users should contact their home institution IT help desk to resolve any issues in authenticating via eduroam.
-
Alternatively, users may contact the IT help desk of a visited institution if contacting their home institution IT help desk is impractical for any reason.
