Health - R&E Connectivity

Connections between AARNet members and health institutions have moved from being one to one, connections to a complex mix of many to many connections. i.e once one hospital was associated with one medical faculty, now most hospitals have relationships with a number of AARNet members and many AARNet members have relationships with a number of different hospitals. The establishment of new connections are treated as new, special arrangements involving complex, time consuming negotiations with firewall policies that often result in less that satisfactory outcomes for AARNet members.

AARNet’s engagement with the Health sector is therefore based on the belief that the R&E sector will benefit from a sharing of knowledge and expertise and from a community based approach to the issues associated with the interface between health networks and AARNet.
