About us

AARNet Pty Ltd (APL) is the company that operates Australia's Academic and Research Network (AARNet). It is a not-for-profit company limited by shares. The shareholders are 38 Australian Universities and the CSIRO.

AARNet provides high-capacity leading-edge Internet services for the tertiary education and research sector communities and their research partners. AARNet serves over one million end users who access the network through local area networks at member institutions.

AARNet has been effective in making representations to government on policy, legislation, strategy and programs to improve the telecommunications facilities and services available not only to the education and research sector but also to the whole Australian community.

AARNet Proprietary Limited (ACN 084 540 518, ABN 54 084 540 518) is a company registered in the Australian Capital Territory.

The Board of Directors is responsible for the overall direction of AARNet and for providing benefits to the shareholders as required under the AARNet Constitution.

The Executive Director is charged with the efficient and cost effective operation of the company. The AARNet Advisory Committee (AAC) provides technical and policy advice to the Executive Director. It is representative of the shareholders and clients mainly on a regional basis.
