Network Operating Information

The AARNet network is extensively monitored. As a passive measurement, SNMP interface statistics, both bytes and packets per second are recorded and viewed by modified MRTG graphs. Error and Discard Statistics are also kept.

As Netflow is deployed at each PoP, traffic is measured down to each IP flow. The results of these are displayed as tables or MRTG style graphs recording bytes, packets and flows per second.

With active measurement, ICMP packets are sent between the RNO sites and to other points at regular intervals to measure the Network Performance. Other measurements, employing UDP packets are also used to measure QoS issues.

Network links and services are also tested for availability at very regular intervals.

Staff and students should contact the network managers within their own organisation if they having difficulties. The contacts list may assist in finding the correct people within your organisation to help you.

Allocated number registry

AARNet manages a number of allocated numbers for members.
